Whodunit? A Spotlight on Mystery and Crime

Join Crime Writers of Canada (CWC) authors Anita Arvast, Diane Bator, Rosemary McCracken, Nanci M. Pattenden, Maggie Petru and Judy Penz Sheluk as they discuss the many sub-genres of Canadian Crime writing at Words the Orangeville Way (WOW) on Saturday, September 28. Meet and mingle starts at 1 p.m., followed by a discussion panel, Q&A, and book sales & signing.  

Words the Orangeville Way takes place at the Mill Street Library from 1-3 p.m. The annual literary festival aims to connect readers and aspiring writers with local authors. Stop by to chat with Headwaters region published authors about their writing process and publishing tips. Books will be available for purchase.

Crime Writers of Canada (CWC) is a national non-profit organization for Canadian mystery and crime writers, associated professionals, and others with a serious interest in Canadian crime writing.

Moderator - Judy Penz Sheluk

Editor Judy Penz Sheluk is the Amazon international bestselling author of the Glass Dolphin Mystery and the Marketville Mystery series. Diane Bator

Diane Bator has a passion for the written word. A storyteller since childhood, she loves to read, write and edit with a vengeance. A lady of mystery, she is the author of the Wild Blue Mysteries and the Gilda Wright Mystery series and is a member of the Headwater Writers’ Guild and Crime Writers of Canada.

Rosemary McCracken

Rosemary McCracken writes the Pat Tierney mysteries. The first novel in the series, Safe Harbor, was a finalist for Britain’s Debut Dagger award. It was followed by Black Water and Raven Lake. The Sweetheart Scamster, a Pat Tierney story in the anthology Thirteen, was a Derringer Award finalist. Jack Batten, the Toronto Star’s crime fiction reviewer, calls Pat “a hugely successful sleuth figure.”

Nanci M. Pattenden

After digging into her own genealogy, Nanci uncovered a story about a young ancestor, sent to Canada from an English workhouse, who ended up on trial for murder. This story, her interest in genealogy, local history and love of Victorian murder mysteries inspired Nanci to start writing. A member of Sisters in Crime, Crime Writers of Canada, and The Writers’ Community of York Region, Nanci is currently working on a collection of detective stories set in Victorian Toronto.

Maggie Petru

Maggie Petru did what most authors want to do. She earned her living by writing. Only it was factual writing for daily and weekly newspapers in Halton Region and Wellington County. Now retired and living in Burlington, she has switched to writing family-based thrillers and mysteries set in small-town Ontario over the past century.
