The Source Protection Plan outlines how the quantity and quality of the Town of Orangeville's water sources will be protected. The plan outlines the actions that need to be taken in order to prevent, reduce or eliminate significant threats to drinking water. View our source water protection resources for more information.


The overall goal of the Source Protection Plan is to:

  • safeguard human health
  • ensure adequate, safe and clean water is available both now and in the future
  • protect water sources from significant drinking water threats

The Plan identifies 21 threats to drinking water and develops policies to reduce the risks associated with these threats. This includes:

  • risk management plans
  • land use planning
  • prescribed instruments
  • education and outreach


The plan takes into account the economic, agricultural, public and municipal interests of stakeholders in the following regions:

  • Credit Valley
  • Toronto and Region
  • Central Lake Ontario
