Celebrate Family Literacy Day - Saturday, January 25

Celebrate Family Literacy Day on Saturday, January 25 at the Mill Street Library with fun activities for the whole family. Events include a special performance by children’s entertainer Joseph Vetro from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., therapy dogs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., science and tech stations, and arts and crafts. Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Joseph Vetro is also an educator who uses music to engage children in various forms of learning. His interactive Music and Me show resonates with positive messages for all ages. "You don't want to miss this fabulous Family Literacy Day event," said Councillor Lisa Post, Library Board Vice Chair.

Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.

“Just 15 minutes a day can dramatically improve a child’s literacy skills,” said Councillor Post. From reading the shopping list, to creating a story together while doing the dishes, to playing a board game, fostering a love literacy can be part of your daily routine.”
