Fire Hydrant Flushing Program - Orangeville Drinking Water System

Oct 7, 2019 | Environment | Public Notice

Beginning October 15, 2019 and continuing between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday each week, Orangeville Water Works staff will be completing a fire hydrant flushing program in the zones noted on the map below.  The program is completed on a regular basis to ensure fire hydrants remain in good working order and that any accumulated sediments in the watermains are removed.

Due to possible sedimentation, the flushing may cause discolouration of the water, so please check your cold water supply before use.  If discolouration does occur, run the cold water until it clears.

The flushing program will begin in Zone 1.  Following completion of the work in Zone 1, flushing will begin in Zones 3 and 3A.  Zone 3A is generally located east of Amelia St., north of Credit Creek Blvd.  It is anticipated the program will be completed by December 12, 2019.  The status of the program will be updated periodically on the Town’s website.

Update:

  • Fire hydrants south of Broadway have been flushed.
  • Fire hydrants north of Broadway and east of First St. have been flushed.
  • Fire hydrants north of Broadway and west of First St. are still to be flushed.
  • Program is temporarily suspended due to snow and freezing temperatures; If weather permits next week (November 18), the program will resume.

Users of the drinking water system are reminded that Water Works staff will continue regular flushing of fire hydrants in selected areas on subsequent Wednesdays as part of an ongoing maintenance program.  Again, the water should be checked for discolouration before use on those days.

Your co-operation and understanding are appreciated during the fire hydrant flushing program.
