Town of Orangeville Remembers Former Chief Administration Officer, Rick Schwarzer

Rick Schwarzer, the former Chief Administration Officer (CAO) at the Town of Orangeville passed away on August 4, 2022. Rick was the CAO for more than 20 years prior to retiring in 2015. Rick started with the Town of Orangeville in 1990 as Director of Planning, before moving into the role of CAO which he held from 1995 – 2015.

“As CAO, he used his planning experience to lead the municipality through the fastest period of growth in Orangeville’s history including the major west end developments both residential and commercial and the construction of the Alder Street Recreation Centre,” says Former Mayor of Orangeville, Rob Adams. “It was a pleasure to work closely with Rick over the years as I always appreciated his insight and knowledge as CAO. Rick was a true community builder serving his friends and neighbours in the noble profession of public service.”

Rick was a supportive leader who guided staff and administration through a period of rapid growth, which helped transform Orangeville into the vibrant community it is today. He helped attract new businesses to Orangeville which led to the expansion of the Centennial Road industrial park and the revitalization of Downtown Orangeville. Rick was an avid squash player, often playing with his co-workers and friends.

Deputy Mayor Andy Macintosh adds, “Having worked for Rick for over 25 years, he was well respected, well liked, and was a pleasure to work for.”
