After two weeks of voting, with nearly 1,000 votes cast, the winning design for the new Rotary Park playground has been selected. With 51 per cent of the votes, design three will be brought to life by the redevelopment team.
The Town will work with its consultants, the playground contractor, and the Rotary Club of Orangeville to move the project forward.
“Choosing a playground concept is one of the earliest steps to breathing life into the future of Rotary Park,” said Heather Savage, general manager of Community Services. “We’re excited to begin work and can’t wait to welcome everyone back to play when it’s done.”
Now that the design has been selected, the equipment order will be sent to the manufacturer, and the Town will begin preparing the site for installation. It is anticipated that the playground will be ready for the community to enjoy sometime this fall.
The Rotary Park redevelopment project is a much-anticipated undertaking by the Town of Orangeville. The park, located in the Town’s east-end, began the first stage of its updates in 2024, including work on a watermain and removal of the playground.
Town staff presented a concept for the full redevelopment to council in June 2022. The concept includes enhancements to everything from parking lots to sports fields, tennis courts and more.
The project is being completed in six stages:
- watermain work (complete)
- play structure and play areas
- tennis and pickleball courts
- parking lot and artificial skating loop
- sports field improvements (baseball and soccer)
- club house
The Rotary Club of Orangeville (RCO) committed to donating $250,000 over seven years to the project. Contributions will be based on fundraising efforts from revenue-generating events like the annual Rotary Ribfest.
“As a community club we’re really excited about this project,” said Ingrid Sproxton, president, the Rotary Club of Orangeville. “Rotary Park has been an important part of our community since it opened in the 1980s. This project allows the park to continue meeting the needs of Orangeville now and as it moves into the future. We look forward to seeing it completed.”
