Location of subject lands: The Official Plan review applies to all lands within the limits of the Town of Orangeville.

Project summary

The Town of Orangeville is updating its Official Plan in accordance with Section 26 of the Planning Act and will hold a Special Public Meeting of Council to discuss revisions that may be required.

What’s being proposed

An Official Plan is a legal policy document that guides and shapes the future of a community. It directs growth by promoting the efficient use of land and infrastructure, supporting the development of attractive and livable communities with a range of housing options and protecting cultural heritage, natural heritage and agricultural lands. The Official Plan applies to all lands within the Town’s municipal boundary.

The Town of Orangeville is reviewing and updating our Official Plan to align with provincial and Dufferin County planning policies. This review addresses growth targets, intensification requirements and updated natural heritage mapping, while continuing to implement the Town’s evolving local objectives and community priorities. The updated Official Plan will guide Orangeville’s growth and planning decisions through to the year 2056.

This comprehensive Official Plan review builds on foundational Phase 1 work completed between 2015 and 2021. Since then, additional changes to the provincial planning framework have occurred alongside the recent approval of the County of Dufferin Municipal Comprehensive Review (MCR) by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (OPA No. 4).

Purpose of the public meeting

This public meeting is the first step in sharing information about the Official Plan review project with council and the public. The Town's consultant team will present the project and highlight preliminary findings on areas that may require change and outline the project's community engagement strategy.

A report summarizing the background findings and directions for key updates will be made publicly available after this meeting.
