Changes begin on September 2, 2025

Orangeville Transit is transforming its services for the community. On September 2, the most significant route changes since 2012 will begin. The overhaul is designed to create more connection between neighbourhoods and better reflect how people move around the community.

So what are the changes?

  • new 45-minute transit loops
  • expanded service to the west end and other underserved areas
  • more efficient routes
  • fewer transfers needed
  • shifts in stop locations to improve safety and flow
  • more shelters and waiting area pads
  • new maps and better map availability
  • improved transit communications

In addition to these changes some underused stops, or stops where safety concerns could not be mitigated, have been removed. Several of these smaller stop changes occurred earlier this year.

“Together, we’re building a better system,” said Mayor Lisa Post. “Our new routes reflect the voices of our riders, community members and front-line staff. Our transit team listened when you said the routes weren’t working and created new routes based on that public feedback.”

The outcome of that public engagement process, along with influence from the developing Transportation Master Plan, is routes that will not only serve the town as it exists today but also support a dynamic future by anticipating the needs of tomorrow.

Creating new routes is only part of the larger transformation of Orangeville Transit. More future improvements include:

  • digital signage with route updates along transit routes
  • new buses with SmartRider™ technology to assist those with mobility needs, bike racks, and cleaner emissions technology

The service will continue to look for other ways it can improve and reach more members of the community as its transformation moves forward.

“When a transit system is at its best, it supports economic opportunities and independence for many members of our community,” said Mayor Post. “It considers sustainability and our quality of life. These changes are bringing us closer to those goals and to making sure we’re a town where getting around is easier for everyone.”
