The Orangeville Public Library is cancelling all programs and events next week including the March Break (March 16-21) programs. The library will offer a full refund for any tickets that have already been purchased for March Break live performances.

Today, the Upper Grand District School Board informed the library that the school venue (Princess Elizabeth Public School) is no longer available for the March Break performances.  In addition, Ontario's chief medical officer of health is recommending the immediate suspension of all large events and public gatherings of over 250 people due to COVID-19.

The in-library programs would involve high-touch crafts and LEGO and would bring a large number of children in the community together in a single room. The strongest preventative measure recommended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is social distancing.

Other programs that are cancelled include Orange thREADs (March 17), Coffee, Conversation & Books (March 18), Club Art (March 19) and the Family Movie Matinee (March 21).

The Town continues to monitor the evolving situation around COVID-19. At this time, the two library branches will remain open. The Town asks that the public not come to the library if they are not feeling well. Everyone is encouraged to practice healthy hygiene habits, such as washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding touching your face.

The Town recognizes the impact this decision will have on families and apologizes for the disruption that this may cause. In consultation with public health authorities, Town officials will continue to evaluate the impact on programs beyond next week. The Orangeville Public Library will provide updates to the public on the library website and social media.
