A group of people planting trees

Sustainable Orangeville and Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) are inviting area residents to join them and help plant native trees and shrubs along the Mill Creek Trail in Orangeville.

Councillor Tess Prendergast, Chair of Sustainable Orangeville, emphasized trees and greenery serve a multifaceted purpose beyond aesthetic enhancement for the Orangeville community.

“They play a vital role in fortifying the ecosystem and providing crucial habitats for wildlife,” said Prendergast. “Trees mitigate the impact of flooding, store carbon and protect against extreme heat. The annual tree planting events represent a valuable occasion for community members to unite, engage with the local ecosystem, and actively contribute to the realization of a more sustainable future.”

As part of its Municipal Tree Canopy Policy, the Town of Orangeville hopes to have a tree canopy of 40 per cent coverage by the year 2040. Community tree planting is one of the many ways the Town is working towards achieving this goal.

This year’s fall tree planting event will take place on October 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. along with Mill Creek Trail located off Hunter Road. Roadside parking is available.
