Canada Day celebrations return to Alder Recreation Centre and Island Lake

Bring your national pride to Orangeville as the community celebrates Canada Day on July 1 at the Alder Recreation Centre and a concert at Island Lake Conservation Area. Fireworks are set for a day later, on July 2, at 10 p.m. over Island Lake.

The fun starts July 1 with opening ceremonies and cake at 11:45 a.m., with free activities planned until 5 p.m., at the Alder Recreation Centre at 275 Alder Street. The main stage, in the red rink, will feature international award-winning magician and mentalist Mike D’Urzo. His “Mind Kontrol” show will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and be repeated 3:30-4:40 p.m. From 2-3 p.m. strolling magic is scheduled. Visit https://www.megamagic.ca/ for more information.

Activities throughout the afternoon will include a family fun zone with inflatables in the green rink, face painting, an airbrush tattoo artist, a professional photo booth, colouring and crafts, MOSSA fitness demos, and B Social Café food services.

Over at Island Lake Conservation Area, a Canada Day concert will feature Jay Kipps and the Over Under Band. Visit https://www.jaykippsband.com/ for more information. The concert is from 6:30-9 p.m. Regular admission applies from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Fix Mobile Bar will be on site providing food and refreshments. Entry fees are free for children ages 0-5, $3 for youths 6-14, $6.50 for adults 15-64, $5 for seniors 65+, maximum charge per vehicle (up to six people) is $27, and no charge for park pass holders.

On July 2, the fireworks are set for 10 p.m. on July 2 over Island Lake. Regular admission applies for most of the day. After 9 p.m. it is free to come into the park, donations are being accepted in lieu of admission fees.
