The clock tower in downtown Orangeville with poppies wrapped around it.

On Friday, November 11, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 233 will host its annual Remembrance Day Ceremony at Alexandra Park. Orangeville schools and residents are invited to attend the ceremony, which will be publicly held for the first time since 2019.

This year, the annual parade from the Legion will resume. The parade will begin down Broadway at 10:30 a.m. from the Legion. A rolling road closure will be implemented for the parade.

The ceremony is set to begin at Alexandra Park at 10:40 a.m. A live broadcast will be available on the Town of Orangeville’s Facebook page for those unable to attend in-person.

Please be aware there will be some road closures beginning in the morning around Town Hall to accommodate the ceremony.

As part of this year’s activities to honour those who have served and who continue to serve, the Orangeville Public Library undertook the Poppy Project. The project, which was spearheaded by community champion, Laura Austin, saw over 3,000 knit and crocheted poppies put together to adorn Orangeville’s clock tower on Broadway.

The installation was completed on November 2 and will remain up until November 14 as part of the period of remembrance. The library had to receive authorization for use of the poppy as the image of the flower is trademarked.
