Two Waterworks Operators flushing a red fire hydrant on a street corner.

Overnight fire hydrant flushing begins Sunday, September 18

Beginning overnight on Sunday, September 18, The Town of Orangeville’s Waterworks Operators will be flushing out fire hydrants in the downtown nightly until Thursday, September 22.

The Town’s hydrants are flushed annually as a part of routine maintenance. Flushing is how workers confirm the hydrants are in good working order. It also helps remove any accumulated sediments in the watermains. The flushing in the downtown core usually marks the end of the process, which began in other areas of town in April.

Workers will be completing the flushing in the following areas:

• Broadway from C-Line to Highway 10
• Neighbourhoods between First St. (west) to Highway 10 (east)
• Broadway (south) to Highway 10 (north)

Some important things to remember during the process:

• Flushing may cause water discolouration due to possible sedimentation
• To remove discolouration, run the cold water tap until it clears
• Residents and businesses may hear or see water rushing during this time
