Income tax season can be a stressful time, often feeling complicated and even at times expensive to complete.

With that in mind, the Orangeville Public Library is hosting the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program for members of the community throughout April and March. These clinics are offered with support from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

“The library is delighted to once again partner to offer the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program," said Darla Fraser. “It supports the library’s role in encouraging financial literacy and provides a welcoming community space to help those who need assistance with their taxes.”

The free clinics provide a crucial service, fulfilling the Orangeville Library’s commitment as a community hub. This service is staffed by trained volunteers who will assist individuals and families with filing their 2023 tax return. Eligible individuals, from students to seniors, with a modest income and a simple tax situation can use this service.

The walk-in clinic, for an in-person interview with a tax volunteer, is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinics will run from Tuesday, March 5 to Thursday, April 25.

Some important things to note:

• Clinics are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Participants must bring personal identification, all tax slips, rent or property tax receipts, and charitable donation receipts.

A drop-off service is also available during the library’s open hours. For the drop-off service, individuals present ID, sign a consent form, and leave receipts with library staff. A tax volunteer will follow up to conduct a telephone interview. After the tax return is filed online, the original tax receipts will be mailed back to the participant at no charge. The last drop-off date is Thursday, April 25.

This valuable community service returned thousands of dollars in tax benefits directly to those who need income support from the government.
