Web banner featuring a young child playing at a community park with the text 'Respect YOUR Rec' in bold. The background has a subtle tree pattern, emphasizing the importance of respecting recreation spaces like parks and libraries.

Together, let's be leaders in creating safe, welcoming spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Respect YOUR Rec is a positive challenge to our community to treat our recreational spaces, staff and other users with respect. This includes parks, playgrounds, recreation centres and libraries.

The campaign responds to an increase in mistreatment of Town spaces, equipment, staff and participants that has been witnessed in recent times.

What does it mean to respect YOUR rec?

Respecting YOUR Rec means treating our spaces, the people who use them and the people who work and care for them with kindness.

It means:

  • cleaning up after ourselves

  • reporting disrespectful behaviour, such as damaging walls, bathrooms or playground equipment

  • treating staff and others with respect

  • putting garbage in the trash

  • setting an example for others

  • being a champion of respect

A safe space for all: understanding the Rzone policyA dark blue circle with text that says respect your rec. The word respect is in blue, your in orange, and rec in green. Behind the words is a faded silhouette of trees.

The Town of Orangeville has an official policy to help keep its spaces safe. The R-Zone policy highlights respect and responsibility for people using Town facilities. For more information on the policy or to report an issue, please follow this link.

The R-Zone policy applies to anyone using Town parks, libraries and recreation facilities, or visiting a Town office. Inappropriate behaviour that violates the policy could result in removal from a Town facility or a ban from Town facilities. In extreme situations, legal action may be taken.

How can you follow the policy and help protect our spaces?
