Each year, the Town of Orangeville addresses issues that arise from the changing of the seasons.

These processes begin at varying times, depending on weather and staffing, and take different lengths of time to complete depending on the specific task and how much it entails.

Damaged Sidewalks
  • All town sidewalks are reviewed and inspected.

  • Areas needing maintenance will be marked with orange spray paint or flags.

  • We may not be able to repair all sidewalks annually, so the orange paint helps create awareness of the problem for residents.

  • Locations determined to be tripping hazards will be repaired as a priority.

  • Repairs are prioritized based on the severity and extent of the deficiency/defect.

When does this begin?

  • Once the weather warms up and snow begins to melt, the assessment program begins in late April/early May.

  • This process can take a few months to get through as there are many sidewalks in Orangeville and weather can impact work.

Who to contact with concerns:

Public Works at 519-941-0440 ext. 4500 or email [email protected]
Damaged Grass
  • When the snow melts, residents may notice damage to the grass close to the sidewalks.

  • Topsoil and grass seed are laid on identified areas.

  • Once the seed has been laid, please remember to water it regularly.

When does this begin?

  • As soon as the weather permits and there is no risk for another snowfall.

  • This project can carry into early summer depending on weather.

Street Sweeping
  • Street sweeping is completed in two steps:

    • A contractor sweeps all town streets for cleanup to clear away the bulk of the initial spring cleanup.

    • Afterwards, our sweepers take over and maintain the roads.

  • Main arteries like Broadway and Townline are addressed first and then residential streets.

When does this begin?

  • Once the snow has stopped and sanding/salting is finished.

Who to contact with concerns:

Residents do not need to report streets that need sweeping. Public Works is aware of roads that need to be completed and will ensure they are done.

Potholes
  • Potholes are filled on a year-round basis as the weather cooperates, but after winter some become more noticeable resulting in an increase of pothole requests.
  • Our maintenance teams use the Town’s hot patcher, which heats the asphalt up to help create stronger adhesion with the fresh asphalt.

  • We continue to watch for potholes that need to be filled.

When does this begin?

  • Work ramps up in the spring with a blitz to repair the additional potholes that tend to pop up with the shift of the winter season into the spring.

Parks Cleanup
  • Parks staff start with parks and trails in the west end of Town and begin cleanup and playground inspections, working their way east.

  • This includes picking up litter, identifying any equipment in need of repair or cleaning, and preparing for park use.

When does this begin?

  • As soon as snow is melted the initial big cleanup begins.

  • Based on seasonal staff, this process can take a couple of months.

  • Regular park and trail cleanup continues throughout the summer and into October.

  • Major parks (Harvey Curry, Rotary, and Fendley) being addressed daily and smaller parks and trails weekly during the summer.

Who to contact with concerns:

If you notice damaged park equipment or something on the trails that may need to be addressed, please contact the Parks Department at [email protected].

Dog Waste
  • The Town of Orangeville does not pick up dog waste

  • We strongly encourage visitors to Town property to clean up after their dogs as per the Town’s Animal Bylaw 68-2000

  • Dog waste is compostable. When you put it in a compostable dog waste bag, do your part by taking it home to your green bin.

  • The Town does not respond to or action complaints about dog waste in parks.
