On April 12, a new all-way stop was erected at Alder Street and Glengarry Road, replacing the original all-way from Alder and Sherwood.

The bylaw to alter the two intersections was passed by Orangeville Council on February 27.

Why the change?

The decision to move the intersection came as the result of a traffic study the Town undertook in 2022.

In September, Council directed staff to review the intersection and monitor safety concerns related to pedestrian crossings, school walking routes and possible impacts to surrounding driveways.

Here are some of the key findings following the traffic survey:

  • Traffic and pedestrian counts at both intersections were similar.
  • There would be less impact on local driveways if the current stop sign was moved to Glengarry Road.
  • Existing pedestrian crossing facilities at Glengarry Road would be enhanced by this change to provide a safer, direct route for pedestrians and students accessing Spencer Avenue Public School.
  • The changes can be accommodated within the current 2023 Operating Budget.
