OPP transition work underway in Orangeville

Orangeville Council voted on December 2, 2019 to transition to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and disband the Orangeville Police Service (OPS). Since that date, the Town has been working with the OPP and OPS on the transition of police services and has created a transition team to oversee the work.

Town launches plowing app

Orangeville residents are about to get a real good look at when their neighbourhood streets were last cleared of snow by municipal crews. The Town has launched an online tool that will show residents the status of Town roads and sidewalks by using the fleet’s location technology.

New hours in the new year for the Mill Street Library

Starting in January, Orangeville Public Library will be adjusting the hours at the Mill Street Library. The library will be open from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The library will also close an hour earlier at 8 p.m. on Monday to Thursday.

Transition date to OPP expected to be October 1, 2020

Orangeville Council voted on December 2, 2019 to transition to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and disband the Orangeville Police Service (OPS).

Since that date, the Town has been working with the OPP on the transition of police services. Currently, the anticipated transition date is October 1, 2020.

Orangeville Council approves 2020 budget

The Town of Orangeville’s 2020 budget was approved at the December 16 meeting of Orangeville Council, with a 1.5 percent increase to the net tax levy.

The consolidated budget of approximately $60 million requires $36.6 million in net tax levy before assessment growth. This represents a $1.01 million (2.85 percent) increase from the 2019 levy requirement. Factoring in real assessment growth from 2019 of 1.35 percent (or $480,000), the net levy requirement for the 2020 consolidated budget is $36,137,361...

Lieutenant Governor visits Orangeville

The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, visited Orangeville on Monday, November 11 to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony in Alexandra Park, along with hundreds of residents and students.
