Wightman commits $56 million to bring high-speed Internet to Orangeville

Wightman Communications Ltd. announced today it will bring next-generation telecommunications to Orangeville that will enable high-speed Internet throughout the Town.



Construction for this $56 million fibre project will begin with the Orangeville Business Park in late 2020, with Wightman planning to bury more than 350,000 metres of fibre optic lines throughout the Town of Orangeville during the project.

Improvements planned for Broadway medians

The Broadway medians are due for some planting improvements. Orangeville Council received a report May 25 on plans to replace the large overgrown mature trees in an effort to improve sightlines across Broadway and the visibility of pedestrians and businesses.



Phase one of the project is scheduled to begin on June 4 with the removal of designated trees. Motorists, pedestrians, and businesses are advised that some street closures will be required and the Town is making efforts to minimize disruptions...

Orangeville’s Business Improvement Area (BIA) has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by launching ShopDowntownOrangeville.ca. The Orangeville Farmers’ Market re-opens with advance online orders for pick-up on Saturday, May 30. Customers will place their orders by noon on Thursdays for pick-up on Saturdays between 9 and 11 a.m. in the parking lot at 94 Broadway, across from Town Hall. Pick-ups will be either drive-through or curbside walk-up, with specific timeslots depending on customers’ surnames.

Orangeville Council received a report on COVID-19 recovery planning at its May 25th meeting. OCPC consents to application to disband Orangeville Police Service

The Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC) has approved the application to disband the Orangeville Police Service. The consent of the OCPC is required under the Police Services Act.



This follows the December 2, 2019 acceptance of an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) costing proposal by Orangeville Council.

The Orangeville Public Library will offer curbside pick-up service, by appointment, effective Monday, May 25.
