Rotary Park

The Town of Orangeville, in partnership with GSP Group, has carried out a detailed evaluation of Rotary Park and its existing spatial programming to develop alternative park programming options.  The evaluation reviewed existing spaces, park design and functionality within the existing park and assessed current conditions and programs in the park. We are sharing the resulting concept plan and the list of proposed changes. Please respond by email (see below) with any questions or input.

Concept Plan for Rotary Park

Based upon the feedback received from key stakeholders and Town staff, this updated concept plan for Rotary Park has been prepared by GSP Group. A summary of the recommendations for changes to the programming and elements of the park are as follows:

  1. Existing baseball diamonds are to remain.  Upgrades are to include dugout updates and netting added to prevent foul balls from leaving the field.
  2. The soccer field is kept in a similar location, however it is shifted to the west to accommodate a new path connection between the ball diamonds and soccer.
  3. An asphalt path system has been added to connect to the existing asphalt pathway system, creating a walking loop around the ball fields, soccer field and connecting along parking to the play area at Idlewyld Park.  This provides an accessible path system.
  4. Parking is expanded and upgraded to be asphalt paving with line painting.  Large expanse of asphalt to be broken up with parking islands including trees.
  5. The play area is consolidated with swings at Idlewyld Park. Connection walkways are added eliminating the conflict with Idlewyld parking.
  6. The tennis courts are moved north, with one court added (total 5).
  7. Pickleball courts have been added.
  8. Hardscape amenity connections between and around the tennis building, tennis courts and skate park have been proposed.
  9. The existing treed berm has been removed and in its place there has been a 250m long refrigerated skating loop.
  10. A picnic are and shade structure has been added at the hub connecting the ball diamonds and skating loop.  The existing building in this location would house the water connection, electrical and mechanical components related to the rink, as well as zamboni parking.
  11. Shade structures with picnic areas have been added to the connecting space south of the proposed pickleball courts.
