Bring your national pride to Orangeville as the community celebrates Canada Day on Sunday, July 1. Enjoy free, Canadian-inspired activities and entertainment at the Alder Recreation Centre at 275 Alder Street from 12-5 p.m. and enjoy the fireworks show over Island Lake at 10 p.m.
During the afternoon, at the Alder Recreation Centre, residents and visitors can join a range of activities, including birthday cake at 12:30 p.m., a Much Video Dance Fun Zone, three free public swims (12, 1:45 and 3:30 p.m.), face painting, balloon twisting, airbrush tattoos, photo booth, Canada-themed colouring page, and inflatables on the arena floors.
Over at Island Lake, for the fireworks show, admission to the conservation area is free after 9 p.m. or the fireworks can be viewed from the west side of Highway 10 at various locations. The Campfire Poets will perform at the Amphitheatre at Island Lake from 6:30-9 p.m. Regular park admission applies until 9 p.m. (adults, $5.31; children (6-14), $2.65; seniors (60 and over), $4.20; maximum charge per vehicle of up to six people, $22.12; members are admitted free). Snack concessions will be available. Admission is free after 9 p.m., although donations will be accepted. Fireworks will be set off from the south dam and the conservation area closes after the fireworks conclude.
