Dance Program Leader

Community Services Department

The Community Services Department requires the Dance Program Leader  to be responsible for the program planning and program delivery of dance programs (i.e. Hip-hop, jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, and creative movement for children or adult programs). Hours of work are scheduled based on program offerings and on an as-needed basis, with no guarantee of minimum hours. Work hours may include weekends, holidays and school breaks and PD days.

Duties include:

  • Planning, organizing and delivering high quality instructional dance programs.
  • Preparing instructional programs plans in advance including appropriate music selection and choreography based on the program curriculum guidelines and dance styles.
  • Providing direct instruction to recreational dance programs with a focus on safe, quality, inclusive programming, ensuring program plans focus on child development best practices by incorporating HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development, reflect on the program goals, objectives, and physical literacy outcomes to meet the needs and abilities of all participants in a positive manner.
  • Completing program attendance at the commencement of each class. Ensuring program participants or parents/guardians receive any program changes or cancellations at the start or conclusion of each class as well as general program information and lesson opportunities.
  • Conducting checks of program area and equipment for safety and cleanliness prior to program and ensure program areas are clean and tidy at the end of program.
  • Attending and participating in staff trainings and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidates must have completed Grade 11.
  • Minimum of three years instructing/teaching a variety of dance styles to various age groups and levels.
  • Current technical or practical experience in one or more dance disciplines (hip-hop, jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, or creative movement).
  • Previous experience with program planning related to dance curriculum.
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development is an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR is an asset.

Salary: $16.37 to $19.15
