First Nations Public Library Week: Local Elder Karen Vandenberg

September 30, 2019, 1:00pm - 2:00pm | Orangeville Public Library | Library

First Nations Public Library Week is September 29 to October 5. Local Elder Karen Vandenberg will be our special guest on Monday, September 30 at 1p.m. (Mill) to commemorate Orange Shirt Day. Karen will share the story "Shin-chi’s Canoe" by Nicola Campbell and Kim LaFave.

Orange Shirt Day, an event that started in 2013, is designed to educate people and promote awareness about the residential school system and the impact this system had on Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada. It is held annually on September 30 with individuals being encouraged to wear an orange shirt that day.
