Bylaw Enforcement

The Bylaw Enforcement Division of Corporate Services enforces Town bylaws in a manner that protects the general public and ensures the Town remains a pleasant and attractive community to reside and visit.

The Town of Orangeville By-law Division is committed to the delivery of professional enforcement in a timely and effective manner. By-law Officers work to enforce and resolve complaints from members of the public regarding a wide variety of issues. Typical issues that are dealt with include:

  • Licensing
  • Property Standards
  • Parking
  • Signs
  • Zoning

By-law complaints may be registered by mail, e-mail, or in person. Telephone complaints will be taken by staff where a complainant cannot attend the municipal office or does not have access to a computer. The Town requires the following information in order to investigate your concerns properly:

  • Your full name
  • Your address
  • Your phone number, and
  • The address of where the alleged violation is taking place with the details of that particular violation

Please note: anonymous complaints may not be investigated, unless the alleged complaint relates to an immediate life safety issue.

Once an investigation is launched a status update is not generally provided to the complainant. The Town of Orangeville strives to ensure the identity of complainants remains confidential, unless required to do so in Court proceedings. Most complaints are resolved through voluntary compliance by way of education and public awareness.

Complaints occurring outside of normal office hours are to be directed to Orangeville Police Service at their non-emergency number at 519-941-2522.
