New Celebration of the Arts event – nominations now open for Arts and Culture Awards
The new Celebration of the Arts free evening event kicks off Culture Days in Orangeville on September 28, 2017 as Canada celebrates Culture Days from September 29 to October 1. The Celebration of the Arts event replaces the annual Mayor’s Breakfast for the Arts held by the Town for the last seven years.
The new Celebration of the Arts evening event will begin with a reception in the Municipal Office Atrium at 7 p.m. followed by entertainment and the presentation of the Town’s Arts & Culture awards in the Opera House. The event is free; however, seating is limited in the Opera House so tickets will be issued starting in early September.
The Town is currently seeking nominations for the arts and culture awards. The awards recognize businesses, organizations and individuals who have contributed to arts and culture in Orangeville. Arts and culture includes visual, music, dance, film, theatre, written word, culinary, parades, festivals and community events, design and much more.
A simple online nomination form is available at www.orangeville.ca. Nomination forms are also available at the Information Desk in the Municipal Office. The deadline for submissions is August 28 at 4 p.m. This deadline is earlier than in previous years as nominees will have the opportunity to provide additional information to the judges by completing a form sent to the nominees once the Town has received the nominations.
Culture Days is a Canada-wide celebration and to raise Canadians’ awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement in the arts and in the cultural life of their communities. The arts and culture sector makes a vital contribution to the economic and social development of every community in Canada.
